Chinese New Year Celebration, Jakarta, Early 2011

A young man put lanterns in the temple's ceiling that will enliven the celebration of Chinese New Year.

In Indonesia, Chinese New Year celebrations have been determined to be a national holiday since the government of Abdurrahman Wahid. And since then, Chinese citizens can celebrate it openly.

Beggars filled the temple every year, especially in the New Year. They come from far away, even some from Bogor. They collect angpao which will be distributed. Usually, they received between 1000 to 2000 rupiah.

Children fell asleep in the temple porch, a common sight on the afternoon.
